What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

Years ago I was rollerskating with the old school roller-skates, white with the big red wheels, and a couple of teenagers mocked me saying "Nice rollerblades," I shouted back "They are roller-skates dummy" I fell as soon as the words left my mouth - karma.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Two years ago I had the opportunity to hike in Iceland to raise money for the Women's Shelters across Canada. I was hiking with Realtors across Canada and every person had their own set of struggles the trek whether it was being afraid of heights, not preparing physically for the hours of hiking or being away from their kids but no matter how hard it was, we all knew that what we were facing was nothing compared to what women and children fleeing domestic violence face. It was incredibly inspiring to be with 30 other like-minded people for a week of pushing our limits to raise money for a really important cause.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Driving to Disney Land with my parents and our good family friends, all of the stops and adventures we had along the way were so much fun, we camped in our tent trailer. I remember me and my friends dancing on picnic tables with our boombox, we were 9 years old.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Supporting the Kamloops Women's Shelter is near and dear to my heart, I co-host a golf tournament with a few friends from my work every year to help support our shelter as well as I will be trekking the Sahara Desert in November to help raise awareness and money for our local shelter as well as programs that help end the cycle of domestic violence across Canada.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
To help people be more empathetic towards people, animals and nature.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Red Beard Cafe for coffee or Jardines for retail therapy.

More support for live music & entertainment that comes to Kamloops so we can continue to see more of that in our community.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The lifestyle! We have a great community, not too big and not too small with all the outdoor activities a person could want.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
-Safari in Africa.
-Watch the northern lights from a glass igloo hotel in Finland.
-Build our dream home with pool, wine cellar, library, and huge covered outdoor living space!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
My grandparents, my parents and my husband and I all share the same anniversary - May 19.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Instagram & Facebook.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Amanda Mitchell Real Estate.

Why did you get into/start this business?

My dad was a Realtor and owned Royal LePage. When I came home from a year abroad I did not want to go to university so he told me to give real estate a shot and I haven't looked back. I've been lucky to have a great mentor but to also love my work.

What is the goal of your business?
To help people find the perfect home for them and make the process as fun as possible.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I am emotional and sometimes it's hard to not let my emotions get into my business whether I have a tough client or my clients are having a tough time, I am always emotionally invested.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Probably a four letter word, even though my dad doesn't approve.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Live your life to the fullest because you do not know what tomorrow will bring.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
My grandma. She passed away 5 years ago and I miss her so much. She loved activities! I think we would cook pasta, drink wine & play cards on the patio if we had the day together.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?

It is important to shop local to help sustain and grow our economy. The more we support local businesses the more opportunity our community has to grow and diversify. I love seeing small businesses thriving in our community.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Finishing a full marathon with a smile on my face!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Michele Walker at the Kamloops Y who works at The Women's Shelter - the work she does is incredibly important in our community and we are lucky to have someone who works so hard.

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:

What is their e-mail address?
