Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
We are mother-daughter business partners and we have both lived here our whole lives, give or take five years spent away.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Luckily, each other! We spend a lot of time together and are fortunate to have the same sense of humour and many common interests.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Erin: Fratellis because I have known Mario and Peter since I was in my twenties.
Silken: The girls at Far and Wide could confirm they are my favourite shop. They are two doors from our shop and I spend way too much time (and $) there.

Describe yourself in one word.
Erin: Cosmic!
Silken: Passionate.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Erin: Pacific Rim National Park, walking on the beach.
Silken: Hawaii. I want to explore the hiking there.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
We both love to go for a meditative float at the Bliss Float Centre.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Erin: Walking down Fort St. in Victoria and discovering my skirt was tucked into my underwear.
Silken: Similar story. My skirt came unpinned in a dance class as a kid, exposing my fruit of the loom underwear to the class.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Erin: Taking the medicine woman course with Therese Dorer opened the door to healing and inspiration that has led me to open Cosmic Rocks and this healing journey.
Silken: Opening Cosmic Rocks with my mom in the Sanctuary has been so inspiring for me. I love all of the people I have been meeting through being a part of The Sanctuary of Zen, and I am so excited to keep growing the vision of healing and wellness that we are building here.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Erin: Eating chocolate cake and drinking milk with my dad.
Silken: Sitting around the campfire at Shuswap Lake while my dad told scary stories.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
We give back in the community through shopping and consuming locally, through the farmers market, and local businesses. We love to see the way all of Kamloops is coming together and valuing shopping local. Erin is an animal lover and frequently gives back to the SPCA. Not to mention she has rescued countless kittens and re-homed them in the area.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Silken: I would love to see the separation that humans have between different cultures and races disappear, and for us to remember that we are all identical in our shared humanness.
Erin: We would all be stewards of the Earth.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Erin: I love walking around at Jacko Lake. I feel very connected to the land there.
Silken: I love to escape to Kenna Cartwright or Paul Lake for a solo hike.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
Erin: I would like to see less littering and more care for our beautiful city.
Silken: I feel that Kamloops is changing positively and becoming more inclusive and accepting which I like to see.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Erin: I like that its got a small-town feel but still has all the amenities I value.
Silken: I love the community feel and seeing familiar faces. And the ability to hike and enjoy nature being at our fingertips.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Erin: 1. Going to Haida Gwaii. 2. Going back to Newfoundland. 3. Going to the Grand Canyon. We're doing that one next year!
Silken: 1. Silent Meditation retreat 2. Going to India 3. Also the Grand Canyon and driving to Arizona which we're planning on, for the Tucson Gem Show!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
Erin: I practice and teach workshops with Tameana energy healing.
Silken: I practice Tameana energy healing at the Sanctuary of Zen. Come in to learn more!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Our Facebook page, Cosmic Rocks and our Instagram @cosmic.rocks.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Cosmic Rocks.

Why did you get into/start this business?
Erin: I couldn't find a local source for the crystals that I was interested in using in my healing practice, so I decided to take matters into my own hands!
Silken: I fell in love with crystals & their healing properties & wanted to share that with the city.

What is the goal of your business?
Helping to connect people to the healing energies that the Earth has to offer through stones and crystals!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Erin: Believing in myself.
Silken: Samesies.

What do you always find yourself saying?
"Everything happens for a reason."

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Trust the Universe. Even if it doesn't seem like it, whatever is happening in your life is happening to help you grow and evolve into the person you came here to be.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Erin: Dr. Sue Morter, author of The Energy Codes. She's pretty cool.
Silken: I want to kick it with Aziz Ansari.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
It's important to support local because we are enhancing relationships, and nourishing our neighbours rather than the big box stores who already have billions.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Erin: Raising Silken!
Silken: Aw. My proudest accomplishment is opening the shop. :)
