In Focus | Hayden Scott

In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses, and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KamloopsBCNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Hayden Scott.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I’m one of the lucky ones that are fortunate to have been born and raised here in Kamloops.

Who is your favorite person to spend time with and why?
My father passed away five years ago now, so now when I spend all my time with him I can talk for hours and he’s always there to listen.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would like to be dropped off in Peary Land, Greenland and just wonder around by land and boat. With the landscape changing so fast I would like to get there so I have my own reference on climate change for future trips.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Fresh Is Best Salsa Co. I’m a sucker for good salsa and 'Hello Toast.' They make amazing dishes.

What is your favorite activity?
I have a three year old daughter so we are teaching her every sport and activity we can. She’s taking alike to hiking, photography, soccer, swimming, and hockey so yes, we have a few favorites.
Anything outdoors while behind the lens of course.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
This is hand down the hardest question on here. I’d have to say a pizza-taco-burger.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Easy. Having the chance to bring a life into this world. The birth of our daughter takes that. A close second the solar eclipse. Have you ever sat over a minute in totality? Having sat myself in the hills of Oregon this past summer to watch the eclipse, it was an out of this world experience for myself.

Tell us your favorite childhood memory.
Camping in the Shuswap with my family and cutting fire wood with my old man.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteered with Special Olympics Canada recently with the summer games held here this past summer and I’ll be volunteering at the winter games this winter as well. My way of giving back to my community is by organizing spring clean ups around our grasslands and lakes. Make sure to come out next spring to the annual Cooney Bay Spring Clean Up.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Remove theft from this world. Someone that works hard for something deserves to keep it.

What is your favorite activity in Kamloops?
Jump 360 just opened here in Kamloops and it’s a big hit with our daughter, I can still be a kid, right?

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
The grasslands. It's open, there’s tall grasses, coyotes signing, and its super dark. Perfect setting for astrophotography and alone time.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
We’re doing it right now, Kamloops is undergoing change to take over the top tourism cities to visit and enjoy. Kamloops is the Mecca for everything on the list, and there are a lot of people that need to come and enjoy it.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The landscape, terrain, and the simple fact we have the best weather, world class Mountains and lakes at our doorsteps, the people are pretty great too.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Travel the world
2. Get up, close and personal with a lion on a safari
3. Walk my daughter down the isle at her wedding

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I’m an abstract artist and painter

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
Through email, word of mouth, Instagram and Facebook

What is the name of your business/organization?
S
cottProject photography. It's my free-lance photography and videography business. Offer a wide range of home and office décor. Special event photography and videography, lifestyle and models shoots.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I’m in the middle of this question right now, so I’ll answer in a solid 2 years. But simply by following my passion.

What is the goal of your business?
To supply Kamloops with great art for home and office décor, unbelievable memories with photography and videography for any special event they might have planned. And finally – to have fun.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Well they play into one another. Watching a gorgeous sunset or sunrise from my office window at work and knowing I can’t just leave, set chase and photograph that light.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
The same. I’m proud of who I am and what I’ve done.

What do you always find yourself saying?
'Let’s go for a drive'

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
My wife. No kid, no dog. Just her.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because when you shop locally you are supporting a local family and with that you aren’t supporting the money for a new beach house in Mexico you are supporting food on the plates of people living their dreams in Kamloops.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Raising a beautiful little girl named Aspyn Rose Scott.

Give someone you think that deserves a shout out and explain why!
My wife Gaylene Scott. This woman is the hardest working, amazing mother out there. She doesn’t know the word stop and without her not supporting me in what I do I wouldn’t be where I am today. From being a captain of her own business and a full-time mother I couldn’t be more proud of her.

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
Ryan McMillian with RM Stone. Enough said.

Some general comments I would like to share are:
Don’t take life so seriously the second you do that you will lose the love for the game.
