Jennifer Brown.
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
You could say I am a true Kamloopsian! I was born and raised in Kamloops but after a few years spent traveling and a 4 year stint in Vancouver, I found myself back in Kamloops for school and I am here to stay.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My favourite person to spend time with would have to be my boyfriend, Brad. Not only is our home filled with lots of laughter and mini dance battles, but he has been the one person who isn’t afraid to challenge me in the way that he encourages me to expand my own perspectives and particular attitudes towards people and life circumstances.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
I love Castles and Cottages. It’s very eclectic, and I mean, who doesn’t love a cute knick knack!
What is your favourite activity?
My favourite activity is dancing!
If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Hmmm pizza or tacos... Can I say popcorn? I’ll go with pizza, plain cheese pizza, but as of late, mediterranean pepperoni from Papa Murphy’s!
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I found that during my time in university, my professors and guest speakers were truly inspiring. Listening to people speak about something they are passionate about, inspires me.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
In elementary school, my mom showed up during class on Valentine’s Day with a huge heart balloon bouquet, you know the type, and a teddy bear just to make me feel extra loved. Embarrassing then, heartwarming now. I love my momma.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I have always strived to be an active member of the community whether that is volunteering the day of an event or for events that run over a period of time. Currently I am volunteering with the 2018 BC Winter Games.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Re-program people to not have malicious intent.
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
In Kamloops we are surrounded by so much beauty. Taking advantage of the endless hiking trails that we have would be one of my favourite activities!
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
To spend alone time, I think I gravitate towards some of the many local coffee shops that Kamloops has. Yes, I know that's not really being alone, but I love a good java. I can completely immerse myself in a good book and feel as if I'm the only one in the room.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The extreme change in seasons. We are truly blessed to live in a place where we witness spring, summer, fall and winter.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. To hike Mount Kilimanjaro
2. Hike The West Coast Trail
3. Complete my master’s degree
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
To name a few: I collect coffee mugs, I sleep with a fan 365 days a year, I love science fiction, and I danced in the CFL for two seasons.

Why did you get into/start this business?
For my love of writing and working with creative like-minded people.
What is the goal of your business?
KamloopsBCNow shares stories about lifestyle, local and world news, entertainment, sports, and community events! We strive to be engaging with our audience and give them stuff that matters!
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Well this question is a whole essay in itself!
What do you always find yourself saying?
Lately, 'huh?' but I’ve been on the, ‘things that make you go huh,’ train.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Honestly, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Purchasing local means money will be staying within the community. I like to shop local because of the personal connection, and I like that our local shops make Kamloops different from any other city. Local shops are one-of-a-kind!
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
So far, I’d say graduating from university. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes when putting yourself through school!
