In Focus | Michael Lang

Meet Michael! He was born in Penticton and has lived in the area his whole life and loves seeing Lang Vineyards thrive and continue to grow!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My wife! It doesn't matter what we do together; we always have a great time. I can't imagine doing it without her.

What is your favourite local store in Penticton and why?
Do restaurants count? If so, I would have to go with Lachi's & Ashoka Indian Cuisine. They are both local and have some of the best Indian food I've tasted! I'm a sucker for good butter chicken :)

Describe yourself in one word.
Real

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Hawaii. Would love to be in the warmth and escape some of the dreary weather we've been having in the Okanagan the last few months.

What is your favourite activity in Penticton?
Saying active whether that be at the gym, hiking or going for a jog.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
In Elementary school, our class went for swimming lessons together. My parents had bought me some new swim shorts, but they were actually too big for me which they didn't realize. So when I jumped in the water, they came off.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Seeing lives transformed by God including my own. I have been a Christian since I was around 16 and I have seen so many peoples lives transformed over that time through the love of Jesus.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I don't actually have a favourite. But some of the highlights would be spending time with my close friends playing sports and collecting hockey cards (still a hobby). Also, spending time at my grandparent's place. They were just so welcoming, and it was often hard for me to go home.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I try to do outreach through my local church in Penticton. Whether that be through my time, resources or whatever I can do to help others in need.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Wars and fighting around the world. I believe in putting aside our differences and trying to get along with everyone.

Where would you sneak away to in Penticton to spend some time alone?
I would probably find some good hiking trails.

Where would you like to see positive change in Penticton and why?
More programs or help given to the growing low income/homeless situation.

What do you think makes Penticton great?
I feel so blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world! Sure, the winters can be dreary but the summer time makes up for it! Also, how could I forget the amazing people and wine.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Travel around the world
2. Visit Alcatraz
3. Go to a Blue Jays game in Toronto

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a baby daughter on the way in July!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
I am not that active personally on social media, but Lang Vineyards is on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

What is the name of your business/organization?
Lang Vineyards

Why did you get into/start this business?
I started working there in 2011. My uncle originally started the winery back in 1990.

What is the goal of your business?
To produce amazing wines!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I am my own worst critic in whatever I do.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
We only get one shot at life on this earth, so I believe in making the most of it. If you are not happy with how life currently is, do whatever you can to change it.

What do you always find yourself saying?
You can do it!

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Don't let your past dictate your future!

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
My Wife!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
I believe that supporting local businesses is what helps each one thrive. Without locals supporting locals many of our businesses and livelihoods would not be successful.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Seeing Lang Vineyards thrive and continue to grow!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Yes, I talk about her a lot, but I'd have to say, my wife. She is so amazing!

My choice for the PentictonNow In Focus spotlight is:
