Top 5 Reasons to Actually Slow Down this Holiday Season

Don’t do it.

Don’t be swept into what you’re being marketed to do.

Don’t get wrapped up in the wildness of the holiday season, again.

Don’t fall in the trap of having to show up everywhere that you’re invited.

Don’t lose sight of what the holidays are all about.

Remember what really matters this year.

All the years before you say you want to go easy on the presents, not do so much and not get so flustered with all the holiday doings that this time of year brings out.

This year you’ve thought, “Yes, this is the year. We’re going to slow down, enjoy each other’s company, and eat/drink in moderation. We’ll do less gifts and have more quality time together. We’re going to remember what it’s all about”

For some of you this time of year will be deeply spiritual.

For some, it might be a time of working harder or just as hard as before *ahem, emergency services*

And for all of us, it’s a distinct time of year that we have a choice to make.

In my family, we decided to draw 1 name and put a dollar limit on spending for that person. We did it last year and it was really fun because you don’t know who got you until the 25th.

I know some families who are sponsoring other families through the Bridge, the food bank (and others, of course) to buy them gifts and food so they can enjoy this time of year just like everyone else.

Here are the top 5 reasons you should actually slow down this holiday season

  1. You will actually rest — sleep is so undervalued as a key ingredient to being present. Getting a good night sleep while you slow your days down can be so potent for you to soak up this time of year.
  2. You will have space to do the things you really love — what do we want? More time! When do we want it? Always. If you slow down you will have more time to do the things you love that you don’t make time for any other time of year.
  3. You set an example for your people — when you commit to slowing down, your people will notice because the difference in energy is feelable. You have an opportunity here to get your people to slow down with you. Winning.
  4. You provide a breeding ground for more gratitude — when you physically slow down you give room for more mental capacity to be grateful. You appreciate the little things you might have missed while you were moving so fast.
  5. You won’t get to the New Year feeling like you got ran over by a truck — this is also known as the Holiday Hangover. When you slow down you give space to be filled up instead of tapped out of people + over-consumption.

Big love to you,

Xx
