1. Australian surfer has ANOTHER close call with a shark
Two years ago, surfer Mick Fanning encountered a great white shark during his final run at the J-Bay Open. He escaped the scary incident without serious injury after punching the shark. Fast forward two years and Fanning had another run in with a shark during this year’s J-Bay Open. This time, however, the shark didn’t get as close as Fanning was quickly picked up by jetskis.

2. Senator John McCain diagnosed with brain cancer
John McCain, who’s the current Senator of Arizona, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. A tumor was found in his brain while he was undergoing a blood clot removal surgery last week. He’ll need a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.

3. Julian Edelman gets letter from an old teacher that doubted him
Never give up on your dreams, no matter what anyone tells you. Julian Edelman showed some proof that you shouldn’t listen to the haters when he posted a letter from an old teacher to Twitter. The letter is an apology from one of Edelman’s college teachers who told the wide receiver that he needed to set realistic goals instead of banking on becoming a professional athlete.

4. Will and Kate get competitive with pretzels and rowing
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Will and Kate, are currently touring Germany and on Thursday morning they got a little competitive over pretzels and rowing. Kate got the upperhand when it came to making pretzels, but Will got the last laugh when his boat won the rowing race.

5. Ryan Seacrest is returning to host American Idol
American Idol is coming back and Ryan Seacrest is coming with it. Seacrest made the announcement on Live with Kelly and Ryan on Thursday morning. The show is returning to the air, this time on ABC, in 2018. Katy Perry is the only confirmed judge so far.
