1. Ryanair is looking to recruit 125 pilots in two weeks
One of the biggest budget airlines in the world is looking to recruit 125 pilots in the next two weeks. The hiring blitz is due to a screw up in the planning of staff holidays, which has left the airline with a serious pilot shortage during one of the busiest times of the year. The airline will also be asking current pilots to delay their holidays a week or two in exchange for a large pay raise.

2. The Kings beat the Canucks in the first China pre-season game
Early risers were treated to some live NHL hockey on Thursday morning courtesy of the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings. The two teams played an exhibition game from Shanghai, China, which got underway at 4:30 a.m. PDT. The Kings won the game 5-2 and the two teams will play again in Beijing on Saturday.

3. Nicaragua joins the Paris climate accord
Nicaragua is set to sign on to the Paris climate accord, which will leave Syria as the only country not involved. The U.S. could soon join Syria as President Trump has promised to pull his country out of the deal within four years. Nicaragua was originally a hold out becuase it felt that the climate agreement’s goals were too weak.

4. Google makes a billion dollar deal with HTC
A deal has been made between Google and HTC, which sees the technology giant acquiring the phone maker. Google will take on the struggling Taiwanese company’s 2,000 employees and all of its intellectual property. The deal is worth $1.1 billion.

5. Medals for the 2018 Winter Olympics revealed
The medals that will be handed out to athletes competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang have been revealed. They’re fairly simple look compared to some of the Olympic medals we’ve seen in recent years, but they’re quite nice. One side features the Olympic rings, while the other has the PyeongChang logo and the sport on it.
