Sports took a backseat to love at a Capilano University basketball game on Friday night.
Shortly before the Blues were set to take on the Vancouver Island University Mariners on the court, coach Cassidy Kannemeyer had something important to do.
It's Game Day!

He had a special question to ask Melanie Mark, who is not only the B.C. Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, but also coach Kannemeyer’s girlfriend.
Well, at least she was.
After Mark received a gift from the school, Kannemeyer grabbed the microphone and announced that he had a special gift for her as well.

That’s when he pulled a ring box out of his jacket pocket and dropped to one knee to ask Mark the most important question of either of their lives.
“Will you marry me, Melanie Mark?”
Mark, who was clearly blown away by the proposal, made a heart shape with her hands as she emphatically said yes.

She then dropped to her knees to give the coach a big hug and kiss as Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ started to play over the loudspeakers.
The Blues ended up dropping a 96-73 decision to the Islanders on Friday, but we’re going to hazard a guess that the coach wasn’t too concerned about the loss.
Congratulations to coach Kannemeyer and the honourable Melanie Mark!
