UPDATE: BCWS urging boaters to stay away from wildfire along Shuswap Lake

(UPDATE: Aug 4 @ 12:35 pm): The BC Wildfire Service is urging boaters to stay away from Marble Point near Sicamous as they continue to fight a wildfire.

"We’ve had issues with boaters interfering with firefighting aircraft on Shuswap Lake," wrote the BCWS. "This is dangerous, both to the public and to our personnel, and interferes with critical firefighting operations. Please stay away from active wildfire sites on the ground, and on the water."

(Original Story: Aug 4 @ 10:30 am): Wildfires continue to be a problem in the Kamloops Fire Centre and Monday was no different with multiple new incidents popping up.

The BC Wildfire Service reported that a new blaze ignited at Marble Point, right between Sicamous and Blind Bay in the Shuswap.

Since the fire was adjacent to the Shuswap Lake, some residents took the time to capture the blaze on film. Intense footage shows just how hot and how high a forest fire can get.

One resident said the fire was only 25-feet in diametre when it was first reported around 10 pm. He mentioned that it moved 300 to 400 feet up a ridge in less than two hours.

The BC Wildfire Service still has the blaze listed as less than a hectare in size. Its current cause is unknown, though there were reports of fireworks going off in the area.

NowMedia will update the story if more information becomes available.
