An Ontario man is wanted across the country for 1st degree murder after the death of his 7-year-old stepson.
As a result of the ongoing investigation by detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of 44-year-old Justin Kuijer.
Kuijer is accused of killing Nathan Dumas, 7, at a home on Queenston Street in St. Catherines on March 17th at about 10:15 a.m. The boy was rushed to hospital and later died the next day. His exact cause of death is not being released.
Kuijer is also wanted in relation to the attempted murder of a female RBC bank employee on the same day. The victim was taken to the hospital but is in stable condition.
The NRPS are not investigating the incident as a robbery or a domestic violence matter as the victim and Kuijer were known to each other professionally. Because of this, it is believed the victim was targeted by Kuijer.
When Kuijer fled the scene of the RBC bank located on Martindale Road in St. Catharines he was driving a dark grey 2009 Pontiac Montana van, Ontario licence #BYTE392. On the rear driver's back window was a pink floral tribute sticker in relation to missing person "Ashley Simpson.”
Kuijer should is being considered armed and dangerous. If a member of the public comes across Kuijer, they are asked to call 911 instead of approaching him.
At the time of the incident Kuijer was wearing a black toque, a brown leather coat, dark pants, an orange hoodie and boots.
