Lethbridge Fish and Wildlife Enforcement is currently investigating a case near Taber, Alta. after discovering numerous dead geese dumped on the side of a road.
An officer attended the scene after receiving the report and found 85 Canada geese and five snow geese on the side of a rural road approximately 11 miles north of Taber.
Wildlife officers say that meat was only taken from 24 of the birds. All of the birds were either partially or entirely buried in the snow.
Wildlife officials say it is an offense under the Wildlife Act to abandon the edible flesh of game species.
Under the Wildlife Act, the maximum penalty is $50,000 in fines and or one year in jail.
Fish and Wildlife officers are asking the public for any information regarding the investigation to contact the Report a Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800 or to report information online.
