(UPDATE: 4:30 p.m.) - The Bangkok Post originally reported that the Canadian tourist who died at Flight of the Gibbon in Chiang Mai province was Spencer Charles from Trail, B.C.
Multiple readers have reached out to NowMedia to inform us that the victim's full name is Spencer Donaldson and he's from Fruitvale, B.C.
However, the 25-year-old's identity still hasn't been confirmed by Global Affairs Canada.
(Original story: 8:25 a.m.) - A 25-year-old Canadian has died at a popular tourist attraction in Thailand.
The Bangkok Post reports that the man fell from the Flight of the Gibbon in Chiang Mai province in the late morning.
A spokeswoman for Global Affairs Canada confirmed the death, but declined to give further details for privacy reasons.
It’s unconfirmed, but local media reports that the victim is Spencer Charles of Trail, B.C.
According to the Bangkok Post, the cable of the zipline disconnected shortly after he was released from the platform.
He fell around 100-metres into the creek below and did not survive the fall.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing and the man’s father is on his way to Thailand to repatriate his son’s body.
