In what might be the most, "What? That wasn't already a thing?" moment in Canadian history, Environment Canada has launched its own weather app.
The app is compatible with iPhone or Android and includes a high-resolution radar option which means amateur meteorologists can guess when the next storm is going to hit their backyards.
The newly titled "WeatherCan" is free, can be used in French or English, and includes Indigenous symbols for northern locations. Push notifications for extreme weather warnings are also an option.
Despite getting 40 million hits to its website every month, Environment Canada decided just now was the perfect time to break into the app world.
“We are the experts,” said Environment Minister Catherine McKenna. “With how much Canadians care about weather, I realized there was an opportunity to have a tool.”
The app tracks a total of 10,000 Canadian locations including the smallest town in the country, Tilt Cove, N.L. According to the app, the four people who live there are expecting about 10 cm of snowfall overnight.
