Fisher-Price baby swing recalled in Canada after 5 infant deaths reported

Health Canada has issued a recall for a baby swing after five deaths involving infants were reported when the swing was used for sleep.

The Fisher-Price Snuga Swing poses a suffocation hazard, the recall says.

About 99,000 swings were sold in Canada between 2021 and 2022.

Another 2.1 million were sold in the US and about 400 were sold in Mexico.

People who purchased the swing should immediately stop using the product, remove the headrest and body support inset from the seat pad, the recall says.

“The swing should never be used for sleep and bedding materials should never be added to it,” the recall says.

“If the product is used for sleep or bedding material is added, the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad can increase the risk of suffocation.”

The affected products are available in various models, which have minor differences in fabric colours and toy accessories.

A full list of the affected products and their model numbers can be found here.

Health Canada says people can check the model number by checking the underside of the swing motor compartment.

Anyone who has the swing is being told to contact Mattel for a partial refund.

Consumers can contact Mattel by telephone at 1-855-853-6224, from 9 am to 6 pm EST, from Monday to Friday or visit the company website.
