Nancy Greene plans to ski this winter following cancer treatments

Former Olympic gold medalist and Kamloops resident Nancy Greene Raine will once again be skiing the slopes of Sun Peaks Resort after battling cancer in 2017.

"Nancy is healthy, feeling great and excited for the coming season,” said Darcy Alexander, the resort's general manager in statement.

Greene Raine was originally diagnosed with thyroid cancer in February 2017, had her thyroid removed, then was also diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in her lungs.

However, Sun Peaks announced today that doctors expect positive results from her cancer treatment, which will begin later this month and be completed by mid-December.

"I wish to thank all those who sent their wishes and encouragement over the past number of months, as well as those who have respected the personal nature of this journey," said Greene Raine in Sun Peak's staement. "I also really thank the medical teams who have assisted and supported me since January,"

According to the resort, Greene Raine returned to her duties in the Canadian Senate and will be skiing Sun Peaks slopes most weekends and holiday periods this winter.

Greene Raine was voted as Canada's Female Athlete of the 20th Century. She won gold and silver medals at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics and overall World Cup titles in 1967 and '68.
