“There are myths around qualifications to apply with the RCMP, like you have to speak French in order to be considered, or you require a university or college degree,” writes Sgt. Scott West in a release.
“The requirements and qualifications are that a person reflects the core values of the RCMP - integrity, honesty, professionalism, compassion, respect, and accountability.”
Additionally, applicants are required to be at least 19 years of age, possess a valid unrestricted driver's license, have high school education, meet the physical and psychological standards for entry into the RCMP, be willing to be posted anywhere in Canada or be pre-posted to B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba, and be willing to do shift work.
Applicants must also be a Canadian citizen and have permanent resident status and must have lived in Canada for at least 10 years.
Career streams in the RCMP that open up include crime scene examination, traffic enforcement, major crime investigation, police dog service, underwater recovery, electronics and surveillance, community policing, and more.
