You’ll be able to use Amazon’s Alexa to check on all the vehicle recalls that have been issued in Canada.

The service activates with the phrase, “Alexa, open vehicle recalls.” Alexa will then ask a few questions about the vehicle make and model you wish to check, and will provide all recalls for it.

To get access, you can enable Vehicle Recalls Canada for free through the Amazon Alexa application.

The service is slated to run as a six-month pilot test, and is one of the first projects that the Government of Canada has used voice assistance for.

On average, vehicle manufacturers issue about 650 safety recalls each year, affecting over five million vehicles.

Under Canada’s recall system, vehicle owners are responsible for bringing their vehicle to the dealer to have the recall work completed.

Canadians who are not subscribed to Alexa can obtain vehicle recall information by visiting Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recall Database. Manufacturers will also mail recall notices to vehicle owners.
