Kaci-Ann Phillips has always had an innate ability to connect with people, to listen with empathy, and to offer support when it’s needed most. After completing her degree at Thompson Rivers University in 2015 and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University in 2022, she embarked on a journey that would see her bring healing and empowerment to the people she works with.
Her career has been defined by a deep-seated passion for understanding human behaviour, emotions, and relationships. Before launching her own practice, Kaci-Ann worked in various roles, including adaptive sports at Sun Peaks, risk youth programs, and supporting children on the autism spectrum. Through each of these experiences, she began to realize the incredible value of being heard and supported, and how these moments of validation could lead to transformation.
"I’ve always believed that everyone has a narrative, their own unique story and journey," Kaci-Ann says. "It’s incredible to see the power that unfolds when someone feels truly listened to. That’s what I strive to create in my practice—a space where clients can explore their emotions and thought patterns in a way that feels safe, insightful and empowering."
But what sets Kaci-Ann apart from others in the field is her approach to therapy. While therapy is inherently a serious and often challenging journey, Kaci-Ann brings warmth, humour, and lightness to each session.
“I like to bring a sense of humour,” she explains. “Therapy can be heavy, but finding those moments of connection, fun, and lightness along the way makes it more approachable. It reminds clients that even in dark times, there is always hope and growth.”
It's this balance that Kaci-Ann finds most rewarding.
"Seeing a client have that 'spark' moment—when everything clicks for them—is the most inspiring part of my work," she says. "That moment of self-awareness or awakening makes everything worth it."
The path to starting her own practice was not without its challenges. In the early days, Kaci-Ann faced the tough task of helping clients feel comfortable and open in therapy, a task that can be especially daunting for those new to the process.
"People come in feeling intimidated or unsure of what to expect," she recalls. "Creating a welcoming, warm environment is just as important as the therapeutic work itself."
Another challenge was refining her approach to counseling. With so many therapeutic styles out there, it took time to discover her own niche—one that was rooted in evidence-based practices, but also aligned with her values and natural style.
“It was about finding the balance between structure and flexibility, and creating a personalized, client-centered approach," she says. "Growth happens outside of our comfort zones, for both the client and for me. I had to step out of the rigid, one-size-fits-all framework to offer something that feels authentic and engaging."
Kaci-Ann’s passion for helping others is not just professional; it’s deeply personal. As a child, she was the friend people turned to when they needed someone to talk to, always ready with a compassionate ear.
"I’ve had my own lifelong journey with counselling, and that has shaped my commitment to providing the same kind of space for others," she explains. "I know how powerful it can be to have someone walking alongside you, offering an unbiased perspective and unwavering support."
Over the years, her experiences working with people facing diverse challenges have fueled her dedication to creating a therapeutic environment that feels both empowering and practical.
"It’s so easy to forget our strengths when the world feels heavy," Kaci-Ann says. "Helping clients rediscover those strengths is key to building their self-awareness and healing. Once they find their own strategies, they truly feel empowered."
Being part of the Kamloops community has also been a significant source of support and inspiration.
"Kamloops is such a welcoming and inviting place," she says. "There’s so much support from fellow business owners, and it's not just about me or my business—it's about everyone coming together to support the community. That connection is so important, whether it's a smile on the street or a conversation after a tough therapy session."
Despite her success and the impact she’s made on so many lives, Kaci-Ann believes there’s a common misconception that therapy is intimidating.
“I want people to know that therapy doesn’t have to feel that way,” she says. “It’s naturally intimidating, but with the right approach, it can become a space where you develop the tools to challenge yourself, grow and feel empowered."
Kaci-Ann’s approach is a testament to the idea that therapy, though challenging, is not something to fear. It’s an opportunity for growth, healing and connection.
