Flight AC33 was already two hours past the Hawaiian islands when it turned around for the emergency landing.

It had 269 passengers and 15 crew members on board.

Many were examined by medical professionals when the plane arrived in Honolulu at 9:45 a.m. PST.

Isabelle Arthur, a spokeswoman for Air Canada, said the airline’s first priority is the safety of passengers and crew.

Hotel accommodations and meals for passengers will be arranged, along with options for resumption of the flight.
