He said it “could have gone either way” while he was being treated and praised the country’s health system – the NHS – for saving his life.
The 55-year-old had been in hospital since last Sunday.

(Update: April 9 @ 1 pm): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now been moved out of intensive care as he recovers from COVID-19.
But he remains in hospital, his spokesman said.
He is said to be in "extremely good spirits."

(Update: April 8 @ 11:26 am): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is "improving" after spending two nights in intensive care due to COVID-19.
The country's finance minister, Rishi Sunak, said Johnson was now sitting up in bed and "engaging" with hospital staff.
He was taken to hospital on Sunday, 10 days after he tested positive for coronavirus, and was transferred to an ICU on Monday.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is among the world leaders to have wished him a speedy recovery.

He has been in hospital since Sunday evening.

Johnson said he'd gone to hospital for "routine" tests because his symptoms had persisted for 10 days.
Britain's foreign minister, Dominic Raab, has been called upon to take over the government in the prime minister's absence.
(Original story: April 6 @ 5:50 am): US President Donald Trump is among world leaders wishing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson a speedy recovery after he was admitted to hospital with COVID-19.
Johnson was taken to a London health facility on Sunday evening – not long after Queen Elizabeth’s coronavirus message was broadcast.
He spent the night there.

His press team said it was because the prime minister is experiencing “persistent symptoms,” including a high temperature, 10 days after he tested positive for the disease.
The move is being called only a “precautionary step” so he can be given “routine” tests.
Johnson is still in charge of the British government, according to members of his cabinet.

Johnson said this morning he was in "good spirits."
President Trump, meanwhile, said “all Americans are praying” for the prime minister.
“He's a great friend of mine, a great gentleman and a great leader," Trump said.
