Teen suspect dead in shooting incident at Indiana school this morning

Another school shooting this morning in the United States almost played out, however thanks to a tip police were able to stop it in time.

Indiana State Police say that early this morning that police in Richmond were alerted to a potential violent act at the Dennis Intermediate School. Officers from multiple agencies responded to the school, which had already been put in lockdown.

When officer arrived, they confronted a teenaged suspect outside the school, who then reportedly shot out the glass of a locked door and entered the building with police in pursuit.

Once inside, the suspect exchanged gunfire with authorities. The state police say that the suspect is deceased as a result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No officers were injured and it has not been determined if the suspect was wounded by police.

“It is important to emphasize that due to the result of advance notification of the potential for a violent act at the school, the school had initiated their lockdown procedure which clearly prevented injury to students and faculty even though the suspect was able to enter the school,” said Indiana State Police in a statement.

Officials are expected to provide more information on the events that led up to the shooting in a media briefing later today.
