{"result":"update_story","description":"<p>Just over a year after a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kelownanow.com\/watercooler\/news\/news\/Provincial\/RCMP_hunting_BC_man_who_struck_officer_while_fleeing_traffic_stop\/\">injured during a traffic stop<\/a>, charges have been laid against the man accused of being responsible.<\/p> <p><meta charset=\"utf-8\" \/><\/p> <p dir=\"ltr\">The BC Prosecution Service has laid the following charges against 58-year-old Tobin Haas of Vancouver:<\/p> <ul dir=\"ltr\"> <li role=\"presentation\">Assaulting a police officer with a weapon, section 270.1(1) of the Criminal Code.<\/li> <li role=\"presentation\">Dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, section 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code.<\/li> <li role=\"presentation\">Resisting or obstructing a peace officer, section 129(a) of the Criminal Code.<\/li> <li role=\"presentation\">Driving with a suspended driver&rsquo;s licence, section 234(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.<\/li> <\/ul> <hr \/> <p><img alt=\"&lt;who&gt;Photo Credit: RCMP&lt;\/who&gt;Tobin Haas\" src=\"\/files\/files\/images\/haas.JPG\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" \/><\/p> <hr \/> <p dir=\"ltr\">According to the BCHP, Haas was pulled over on Hwy 91 near 72 Avenue in Delta around 10:30 am on Feb. 17, 2024.<\/p>\n\t\t<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1515615292703-0\" class=\"dfp-ad dfp-in-content\" style=\"margin-bottom:15px;\">\n\t\t<script>\n\t\t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(\"div-gpt-ad-1515615292703-0\"); });\n\t\t<\/script>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t <p dir=\"ltr\">While the responding officer was &ldquo;investigating a driving offence,&rdquo; Haas allegedly struck them with his Nissan Versa as he fled the scene.<\/p> <p dir=\"ltr\">The Mountie was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, but the BCHP noted today that he is &ldquo;still recovering&rdquo; a year later.<\/p> <p dir=\"ltr\">Haas&rsquo; vehicle was later found abandoned and a BC-wide warrant was issued for his arrest. The BCHP did not indicate when he was brought into custody.<\/p> <p dir=\"ltr\">At the time of this incident in February 2024, Haas was also wanted in relation to a break-and-enter.<\/p> <p dir=\"ltr\">He&rsquo;s scheduled to next appear in Surrey Provincial Court on April 1, 2025.<\/p>","title":"Charges laid against BC man who allegedly injured officer while fleeing traffic stop"}
