The longest-serving James Bond, Sir Roger Moore, has died at age 89

The longest serving James Bond has died.

Sir Roger Moore’s family broke the news of his death via social media.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but very brave battle with cancer,” the statement read. “The love which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone.”

Moore played the iconic James Bond from 1973 until 1985, accumulating a total of 5,118 days in the role.

His run as Bond is nearly 1,000 days more than Daniel Craig, who is the second longest serving Bond at 4,239 days and counting.

Live and Let Die was Moore’s first turn as Bond and he continued to portray the famous British spy in six more films.
