Members of the Kamloops improv troupe, The Freudian Slips, are headed to Toronto to study with The Second City.
Founders Brittany McCarthy, Jessica Buchanan and founding member Brooke Ballam have been accepted for courses at the improv school.
Founded in Chicago more than 50 years ago, The Second City is an improvisational comedy theatre now with programs in Toronto and Los Angeles.
Its training centres boast the the largest school of improv and sketch comedy worldwide. Chicago’s Second City alumni include Tina Fey, Chris Farley and Bill Murray.
The Kamloops trio has been immersed in the Kamloops theatre scene, performing with Chimera Theatre, Project X and Western Canada Theatre. All three graduated from the theatre program through TRU’s Actors Workshop Theatre.
Freudian Slips was founded with the help of Chimera Theatre and numerous Kamloops theatre professionals.
“Words cannot describe how the three of us feel, we’ve always wanted to start an improv troupe and because of the outstanding support from impeccable troupe members, local business owners and, of course, Kamloops as a community, we were able to create monthly shows for audiences that continuously came and laughed,” the trio said in a statement.
“So, from the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you for laughing at us.”
There are two more chances to catch Buchanan, McCarthy and Ballam with Freudian Slips: Jan. 27 and Feb. 10. Tickets are available online.
