The second season brings the British monarchy into the 1960s as conflict ensues - both outside and inside the palace.
On Friday, Netflix released the latest trailer to kick off Season 2 of The Crown.
Claire Foy stars as a young Queen Elizabeth II who's thrown into leading Britain. As she adjusts to her new role, she's also fighting to keep the monarchy alive in the modern world, while balancing married life with a boisterous and stubborn Prince Philip, played by Matt Smith.
The first season of the show garnered several awards, including a Golden Globe for best dramatic series, a Golden Globe to Foy for best actress in a TV drama and an Emmy for John Lithgow's portrayal as Winston Churchill.
The show's popularity is also strengthened by current royal events.
The announcement of Prince Harry's engagement to actor, Megan Markle, now has younger audience members tuning into the show.
What could have become an outdated period piece, has instead garnered attention from a wide demographic of curious viewers, wanting to peer into a world so distant from their own.
The show is available for streaming on Netflix on Dec. 8.
The third season has been announced, however, Foy and Smith are expected to be replaced in order to accurately portray the aging royals.
