Four artists paint stunning mural celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary

From February to March 2017, four local Montreal artists teamed up to paint a massive mural on the Canada Steamship Lines (CSL) Trillium Class bulk carrier, CSL St-Laurent.

The mural, known as The Sea Keeper, was conceived by Montreal urban artist Beyung and created with artists FONKi, Ankh One, and Benny Wilding of the A'shop art collective.

The original artwork was created celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada and the 375th of the City of Montreal, as well as mark a renewal currently under way at CSL.

The CSL Group released a video on Thursday documenting how a spectacular original piece of art was created on the CSL St-Laurent.

"CSL chose CSL St-Laurent to host the tribute to Montreal and Canada because her name honours the St. Lawrence River," read a news release regarding The Sea Keeper. "And her state-of-the-art technology and seamanship represent the new generation of high-performing, environmentally-responsible cargo vessels."

Currently, the CSL Group is the largest owner and operator of self-unloading ships in the world and delivers more than 76 million tonnes of cargo annually for customers in the construction, steel, energy and agri-food sectors.
