With summer right around the corner, Canadian Blood Services is calling on all eligible Canadians to roll up their sleeves and give.
Every year, Canadian Blood Services boosts the blood supply to accommodate the summer months where Canadians’ priorities lie elsewhere.
This year, a stormy winter and a wet spring have left inventory levels lower than normal.
This has Canadian Blood Services scrambling to increase supplies before the summer months, when there are typically less people donating.
Cancer patients, accident victims and people with blood disorders rely on blood transfusions every day, even during the summer.
“For patients, the demand for blood never takes a holiday,” said David Patterson, director of donor relations for B.C. and the Yukon. “We need 16,000 blood donations every week to stock our shelves and continue to help patients throughout the summer.”
While the biggest need is for Type O blood, any eligible donors are encouraged to book an appointment today, with at least 3,000 weekly appointments waiting to be filled.
You can book an appointment by calling 1-888-2DONATE, online at www.blood.ca or through the Canadian Blood Services mobile app.
