Foreign spending way up as Canada is named the #1 place to visit in 2017

It’s Canada’s 150th birthday and everyone wants to be a part of the celebrations.

That doesn’t just mean the nearly 36 million residents of this country, but also people from around the world.

That’s backed up by the New York Times and Lonely Planet, who call Canada the number one place to visit in 2017.

Both publications listed Canada as the place to go this year and that impact is already showing when you look at the year-over-year foreign spending numbers.

April and May saw increases of 8.5% and 11.6% respectively when it comes to money being spent in Canada by tourists.

The overall numbers from quarter one, which is January through March, saw an increase of 6.1%.

The biggest foreign spenders so far this year are visitors from the U.S., China, Australia and the U.K., which isn’t a big surprise by any means.

According to Moneris, who published all these numbers, 20 million tourists will visit Canada throughout the year, which is a 14-year high.
