Start your day off right with five things you need to know this morning.
Five things you need to know
1. New California declares ‘independence’ from California
A group that is unhappy with how California is being run is hoping to split the state in half. On Monday, the founders of New California read their own declaration of independence from California. New California would be most of the inland part of the state with a chunk of the north and south coast, while “old” California would be the coastal urban areas like San Francisco, Los Angeles and everything in between.

If you jumped on the Bitcoin train as it skyrocketed towards $20,000, you can’t be feeling to good right now. The online cryptocurrency has fallen below $10,000 for the first time since December and it’s down more than 50% from its all-time high of $19,783, which also occurred in December.

3. A YouTuber said ‘gucci gang’ a million times for charity
The song ‘Gucci Gang’ by Lil Pump is already considered a bit repetitive, but this is taking it to a whole new level. YouTuber Graham Heavenrich, who goes by Graham the Christian online, said the two word phrase a million times to raise money for Red Nose Day, a charity that helps children in poverty. It took him days to complete the challenge, but he managed to raise USD $10,000.

4. People are skeptical about President Trump’s weight
On Tuesday, the White House released the results of President Trump’s physical and there’s some skepticism regarding its accuracy. It has Trump listed as 6’3” and 239 lbs, which is a single pound or inch short of being considered ‘obese’ on the BMI chart. The internet has also pointed out that Trump supposedly has the same height and weight as a number of very fit NFL stars.

After Denis Shapovalov lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Wednesday, there is only one Canadian left in the Australian Open. That would be Eugenie Bouchard, who has a massive test ahead of her in round two. Bouchard is set to face off against the top seed on the women’s side, Simona Halep. That match will start at midnight local time.
