Americans are tweeting #ThanksCanada after Trump’s attack

Canada is not the first nation to be the target of a Donald Trump Twitter tirade, however, people on both sides of the border were a taken aback as the US President took some very public shots at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the past week.

After attending the G7 summit in Quebec over the weekend, the president quickly took to social media calling Trudeau both “meek and mild” as well as “very dishonest and weak” based on Canada’s response to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Americans made some solid points during the #ThanksCanada Tweetfest, many choosing to highlight the several occasions that their neighbours to the north stood up for the US and lent a helping hand.

There were also plenty of shoutouts for classic Canadian exports like maple syrup, artists like Neil Young and scientific discoveries such as insulin.
