There’s certainly nothing wrong with riding the bus, however many will agree it’s not the most glorious method of transportation.
While sitting beside chatty strangers is no cake walk, the worst part of the experience is arguably just waiting for your ride to arrive.
However, a recent “Sorry Bus Stops” contest held online for bus stops in North America made it clear that some stops are definitely worse than others.
Along with bus stops from Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Pittsburgh, this Metro Vancouver transit pickup was named the absolute worst of the dubious competition's top four finalists.
The desolate, roadside bus stop located on the Lougheed Highway, at the intersection of Lougheed and Old Dewdney Trunk Road in Pitt Meadows, makes those waiting look like hitchhikers.
"These bus stops aren’t just ugly. They’re hazards. They’re evidence that something has gone fundamentally wrong that people are being exposed daily to these conditions," said the contest's author Angie Schmitt.
The Metro Vancouver bus stop was nominated by local resident Jason Lee, who says the transit pickup was the site of 33 fatal crashes over the last 10 years.
According to Translink BC, bus stop amenities, such as shelters, are the responsibly of the local municipalities, but the stop has been flagged by Translink as a safety issue.
In the final vote against its three competitors, the Metro Vancouver bus stop ended with 58% of the vote, beating out second place Cincinnati.
Here's how the rest of the final four rounded out:
Second Place: Cincinnati
Third Place: New Orleans
Fourth Place: Pittsburgh
