BC Interior man, 46, charged with murder in death of ‘estranged wife’

An incident in the Kootenays has left a woman dead and her husband behind bars.

On Monday, Mounties were called to Montrose, just east of Trail, for reports of a man assaulting a woman on the front lawn of a residence.

Upon arrival, first responders found Lindsay Danchella suffering from significant injuries. She would later die in hospital.

Police arrested 46-year-old Donald Danchella at the scene and the RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit took control of the investigation.

According to an RCMP statement, Danchella was charged before the end of the day with second-degree murder in the death of “his estranged wife.”

He briefly appeared in court on Monday and was held in custody ahead of another court appearance today.

Staff Sgt. Jason Smart credited the quickly-secured charge to the efforts of investigators from the SDMCU, RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Trail RCMP.
