UPDATE: DNA results confirm identity of remains from Revelstoke plane crash

(UPDATE: Nov. 2, 2018 @ 3:30 p.m.) - The Revelstoke RCMP and BC Coroners Service have confirmed the identity of the remains found at the plane crash site near Revelstoke.

Through DNA testing of the remains found at the plane crash site, the Revelstoke RCMP and BC Coroners Service have confirmed the identity of the remains as those of the two known occupants who were reported missing on Nov. 25, 2017. The crash site had been located on September 10, 2018.

(Original story: Sept. 11, 2018)

For the families and friends of Dominic Neron and Ashley Bourgeault, it will certainly give them some closure.

On Monday afternoon, a BC Ambulance Service helicopter spotted the wreckage of a small white and burgundy plane near Revelstoke.

It had a tail marker that matched the plane Neron and Bourgeault were in, which went missing on Nov. 25, 2017 en route from Penticton to Edmonton.

Revelstoke RCMP have since confirmed that the plane is indeed the one belonging to the young couple.

It comes nearly 10 months after the Mooney M20D, with markings of C-FESN, went missing in the B.C. Interior, sparking a frantic nine day search.

After those nine days, the search was turned over from the military to the Revelstoke RCMP and the families of Neron and Bourgeault have continued it long after it became inactive.

It was largely funded by a GoFundMe set up by Neron’s sister Tammy, which saw $38,575 raised by 239 contributors.

The RCMP, forensic identification services, Revelstoke Search and Rescue, Transportation Canada, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and BC Ambulance Service are all participating in the investigation of the crash.

They’re all currently accessing the site, in partnership with Parks Canada, to conduct that investigation.

NowMedia will update this story if more information becomes available.
