Police in Kelowna and Kamloops are reminding parents to check their children’s Halloween candy bags after a pair of sharp items were found inserted into sweets in both communities.
In Kamloops, a small razor blade was found inserted into a piece of candy that a child collected after trick-or-treating in the Brock area on Oct. 31.
According to police, the child found a piece of candy that had been partially opened in her bag and a small blade was found protruding from the piece of candy.
A parent of the child then notified police and there have been no other reports since.
After trick-or-treating in the Kneller Road and Hein Road area of Kelowna, a parent checked their child’s candy haul and found what appeared to be a sewing needle inserted into a small piece of chewing candy.
“Thankfully the discovery was made when the parent was inspecting the candies and the child was not hurt,” stated Sgt. Judith Bertrand.
“This is the only incident reported to police”, added Sergeant Bertrand “but please remind your children not to eat treats until an adult has looked them over”.
