Youth injured after getting struck by truck in 100 Mile House

A child in 100 Mile House narrowly escaped disaster after a motor vehicle incident on Thursday.

According to police, at 3:20 pm, police were notified of a collision between a pickup truck and a bicycle on Taylor Way. RCMP, 100 Mile House Fire Rescue, and the BC Ambulance Service all attended the scene.

An investigation determined that a 12-year-old was riding his bike across a crosswalk from BC Hwy 97 onto Taylor Way when he was hit by the truck.

The kid was wearing a helmet and only suffered minor injuries. He was transported to the hospital as a precaution. The driver remained on the scene and co-operated with the investigation. He was issued a violation ticket for the incident, but police determined there was no criminal intent.

Police wanted to hammer home the importance of wearing helmets while biking, and to be aware of your surroundings when using a crosswalk.
