One of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks to hit the BC Interior has finally come to an end.
Interior Health announced today that the outbreak at Spring Valley Care Centre, a long-term care home in Kelowna, has been declared over.
After being declared seven weeks ago on April 28, the outbreak infected 36 residents and 12 staff members.
Unfortunately, 12 people linked to this outbreak died due to their illness.
“I want to thank the staff and everyone at Spring Valley for their dedication during this outbreak,” said Susan Brown, president and CEO of IH.
“Everyone stepped up to continue providing quality care during this challenging time.”
An outbreak is declared over when two incubation periods, or 28 days, have passed from the last onset of symptoms in a resident.
With today’s announcement and the outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital being declared over on Tuesday, there are no active outbreaks in the BC Interior at this time.
