Only 4 new COVID-19 cases announced on Friday, no new deaths

Provincial health officials announced just four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in BC on Friday afternoon.

A written statement also reported that no new deaths have been identified in connection with the virus.

There are currently 228 active cases of COVID-19 in BC, with 34 of those in hospital and six in intensive care.

Earlier on Friday, the federal government confirmed that large cruise ships will continue to be barred from Canadian waters until at least the end of October.

In BC, officials applauded the decision, calling the move "the right thing to do" as the country moves into the summer months.

“Easing restrictions can be done only after thoughtful consideration. Our focus and priority are the health and safety of all British Columbians," said Friday's press release.

"With your help and all of us doing our part, we will get through this storm together.”

A total of 2,170 people who tested positive have recovered.
