VIDEO: Feature horror film to debut at Field of Screams ‘Theatre of Terror’

Field of Screams just got a whole lot scarier with the addition of a feature film that follows suit with their 2022 theme, Theatre of Terror.

Heading into its ninth year, the haunted corn mazes at O’Keefe Ranch has become a bit of a staple in the Okanagan during October as people come from far and wide to get their scare on.

As they continue to get more and more creative with their frights, the Creative Director for Field of Screams, Matt Brown, took it one step further by filming an entire horror film on the ranch.

“Ride the Night” follows four teens who are on their way to the Field of Screams, during their drive, they make a wrong turn and their fun-filled journey takes a dark turn.

Premiering on Oct. 13 at Field of Screams, guests waiting in line to get into one of the mazes will have the opportunity to watch the film for free on the big screen.

“One of the things that is notable about Field of Screams, as the event goes on, the lines get longer and longer,” said Brown. “We’ve done everything we can to try and spread out those lines by having four mazes.”

“So now we’re trying to entertain the lineup queue while they’re waiting, this is our thanks for people waiting in the line as long as they do.”

Brown explained that while they normally shoot a cinematic feature to showcase the theme and promote Field of Screams of year, they decided to go bigger and better by writing, casting, shooting and editing the movie in a matter of eight weeks.

Of course under the banner of ‘Theatre of Terror’, all three of the themed mazes are based on some iconic films that have ghastly actors running around to scare the living daylights out of you, FUN!

There's Classics From The Crypt, which covers the OG monsters like Wolfman, Dracula, and Frankenstein, then Nightmare Next Door brings you up close and personal with murderous neighbours like Freddy, Ghost Face and Micheal Myers and then Forgotten Space brings you into the crash landing site of some extraterrestrial beings.

The fourth maze, Welcome to the Dark Side, remains completely black with no actors or props but a special twist this year that gives you the option to listen along through your headphones to a spooky podcast; Where the Leaves Fall Purple.

Once guests have completed their haunting experience, they're invited to rate the mazes online.

"All the actors are competing against each other, and it's really really important because we do have an awards night and appreciation night for our cast and crew," added Brown. "So go on to our page and let us know what you think is the best!"

This year, the maze opened slightly earlier than normal and will be running all the way until Oct. 30.

You can purchase your tickets online for the spookiest event of the year, or head down to O’Keefe Ranch to buy tickets in person at one of their cheap nights!
