Latest election poll shows Conservatives with a slim lead in BC

Canada’s federal election is only three days away and the campaigns are entering the final stretch.

According to the third and final poll from Insights West, the Conservatives hold a slim lead in BC, ahead of lukewarm support for the Liberals and a final-week surge for the NDP.

The Conservatives have been in the lead for each of Insight West’s polls, with the latest edition showing 27% of BC voters saying they would vote for the Tories.

However, it’s not all bad news for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the federal Liberal party which continues to hold steady with 20% support from BC voters.

While the two parties continue to hold similar levels of support as they did at the beginning of the campaign, the NDP has enjoyed a surge in popularity in Canada’s western-most province.

The New Democrats have pushed ahead of the Liberals with 23% support, up from 14% in mid-September.

Much of that appears to be at the expense of the Green party (down to 11% support from 14% in mid-September) and by undecided voters making up their minds in the final days.

“The NDP’s new-found polling strength appears to be coming from three groups where they have traditionally found support: women, younger voters, and voters in the coastal areas of Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island,” reports Insights West.

The poll was conducted online with 1,670 adult residents of BC between October 13 and 16, 2019.
