President’s Choice has hopped on the plant-based bandwagon.
One of the country’s largest grocery store chains has announced a new “beefless” burger and plant-based chicken breasts.
"Made with pea protein, this plant-based burger has the look and taste of a beef burger – without the beef," reads the product description.
"Suitable for vegan diets or anyone who wants to include more plant-based alternatives, it’s a delicious addition to your grilling routine."
According to the company, the summer products launched over the Victoria Day weekend across Canada in all stores, and will be rolled out until the middle of June.
Other new plant-based vegan options include cheesecake, mayonnaise and red pepper cashew dip.
Canada's updated Food Guide recommends less meat and more plant-based proteins like tofu, nuts and legumes.
In a recent survey, 29% of Canadians admitted that the new Food Guide’s recommendation to incorporate plant-based protein impacted their food shopping decisions.
