We now know what menu items will be offered when Zellers Diner makes its new-look return this year.
The Zellers Diner on Wheels concept was unveiled in late January, just over a week after The Bay announced that 25 of its stores would soon become home to the Zellers brand.
The iconic Canadian retailer said it heard the calls for the restaurant’s return “loud and clear,” and revealed that it would be mobilizing a fleet of food trucks to hit the streets this spring.
But Zellers wanted feedback, as people were tasked with narrowing down 10 potential menu items to five that would be making a triumphant comeback through these food trucks.
Today, the five “nostalgia-inspired” menu items that Canadians selected were revealed:
That means Onion Rings, Quesadilla, Poutine, Hot Dog and Veggie Burger did not make the cut.
To start, the food trucks will only be seen where the Zellers brand is popping back up this spring, which is Kamloops, Abbotsford, Surrey and Vancouver in British Columbia.
“Following the initial stops at the store locations - and if customers embrace the comeback - the Zellers Diner on wheels will gear up to head out for its cross-Canada debut,” the retailer explained.
Tour dates and locations for that potential tour will be shared at a later date.
