Thompson Rivers University announced Monday morning that the faculty association intends to begin job action.
The Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association (TRUFA) issued a 72-hour notice to the administration that they intend to strike in its dispute against the University's administration.
The faculty and administration have been at the bargaining table for the past 11 months with little progress made. Key issues have included budget, with faculty arguing that resources haven’t been going to student needs.
“Currently, sufficient resources are not going to assist faculty in meeting student needs or in providing much-needed services that foster student success,” said TRUFA President Tom Friedam. “Unfortunately, the employer remains unwilling to acknowledge or address the issues that faculty have maintained are critical.”
The union says despite issuing the strike notice, they remain open to bargaining.
The Faculty Association represents approximately 650 instructors, librarians, counsellors, educational coordinators and learning specialists on two campuses in Kamloops and Williams Lake.
