A non-confidence vote at Thompson Rivers University ended with over 80 per cent of the faculty association clearly voicing their doubt in senior administration.
The vote, which was initiated by TRU faculty, was held online this week.
Faculty at the Kamloops and Williams Lake campuses were asked whether they have confidence in five named senior administrators. Of the 363 votes cast, 81 per cent voted ‘No Confidence.’
“The results of this vote should be a wake-up call to the institution for substantive change,” said Tom Friedman, TRUFA President. “This is one of the highest faculty participation rates for a University-wide vote in 30 years.”
“And the outcome is undeniable evidence that faculty are calling for change.”
About 740 TRU faculty members including instructors, librarians, counsellors, co-op education coordinators, learning designers and instructional support faculty were eligible to vote.
A motion at their February general faculty meeting spurred the vote, with about 95 per cent of the over 200 faculty members in attendance calling for it.
Friedman went on to say that they expect an early meeting with the TRU Board of Governors, allowing TRUFA to present the Board with the concerns expressed by faculty.
