It looks as though an Alberta contractor will be the one in charge of newly renovating Valleyview Secondary.
School District 73 announced this afternoon that "Dawson Wallace Construction," who has offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and now Surrey, was awarded the Valleyview Secondary Expansion contract. DWC is ranked consistently among the top 50 general contractors in Canada, and was listed in the top 20 last year.
"We’re proud to be serving the community of Kamloops,” said Myron Grunsky, Dawson Wallace Principal. “We appreciate that the Valleyview School Expansion project provides us the opportunity to establish relationships with not only the School District and industry partners, but also with the community members who will ultimately occupy the newly completed school. We’re excited for the opportunity to leverage our collective experience for the benefit of all project stakeholders, and to further reinforce our commitment to servicing the construction needs of British Columbia’s communities."
"Through the on-going completion of our multiple projects throughout British Columbia, we’ve cultivated an extensive network of relationships with key substrates throughout the province. Wherever possible on our projects throughout Western Canada, we endeavour to partner with local construction labour, trades, and suppliers. We appreciate the value that their regional experience and expertise brings to our diverse company, and maximize this value for the clients we serve.”
When the $34.5 million project is completed, it will increase the school's capacity from 675 to 1,200 students. The expansion will add 20 classrooms, a new gymnasium, multi-purpose areas, and more. It will also have wall space projectors as well as gender-neutral washrooms and change rooms.
“Site preparation work is well underway, and construction on the building will begin shortly,” said Art McDonald, SD73 Director of Facilities. “We expect the project to be complete by September 2022.”
