The BC Wildfire Service continues to battle a plethora of fires sparked by Friday lightning storms.
According to Fire Information Officer Gagan Lidhran, crews are dealing with 24 incidents, including 18 active fires. Of the 18, 16 ignited because of the aforementioned lightning.
"We've had 24 incidents, 18 of which are still being actioned by our crews," said Lidhran. "Of those 18, 16 are caused by lightning, two of which were existing from previous nights."
Thankfully, there has been no lightning in the centre since Friday.
"There was no lightning in the Kamloops Fire Centre as of last night, so there was none in our area. There are no significant fires of note at this time, so what that means is that there are no fires threatening any communities or are extremely large at this point in time."
The largest blaze crews are battling is still the Solco Creek wildfire, which sits at 13.8 hectares.
"Solco Creek still remains the largest fire that we have in our fire centre... That guy is still 13.8 hectares, it's still listed as 'out of control,' no structures are threatened, and the cause is unknown. That one started on July 30, so we have 80% of a fireguard surrounding the perimeter of the fire at this point."
"We're also doing a wet line, so making sure to put water on the outside of the perimeter, crews are continuing to look for hotspots within the fire as well, and sort of just hose those down. We have one medium rotary link helicopter, two heavy pieces of equipment on-site, and 41 personnel on that fire."
Lidhran doesn't expect to see significant growth from the active fires. NowMedia will update the story when more information is available.
