Tomorrow is National Indigenous Peoples Day!
National Indigenous Peoples Day is a way to celebrate unique heritage, diverse cultures and the contribution of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people.
This day will be celebrated all across Canada in different ways and Kamloops is no exception.
There are many events taking place locally and all are welcome to attend!
Get out there, celebrate and embrace different cultures! You won’t regret it!
National Indigenous Peoples Day will kick off at Thompson Rivers University from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Old Main building.
This gathering will acknowledge the first relationships and provide a welcome to the territory of Secwepemc.
TRU Elders and Tk’emlups te Secwepemc representatives will be present.
From 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc powwow grounds will be a hub of activity!
Come on down and experience face painting, food vendors, local artists, storytelling and dancing!
The grounds will also be host to the 6th annual Moccasin Mile!
Closing fireworks will be held at the end of the night so be sure to stick around!
From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., attendees will be able to participate in a number of cultural activities and tours!
Cap off the evening with a live concert with Maori artists Mihirangi and DJ Shub!
The Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services will be celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be drumming, singing, jigging and games!
A lunch is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. so don’t be late!
