Kamloops City Council will get together this afternoon where drinking and eating on patios will be on their minds.
According to a report from the City, council is set to discuss whether to authorize a temporary permit expansion for restaurant patios on sidewalks and parking stalls in the downtown and on the North Shore. If approved, restaurants will be given flexibility with the use of areas that can support a larger group of people while providing safe space for physical distancing.
Outdoor patio areas will be permitted to utilize the entire municipal sidewalk, as long as there are 1.5 metre-wide walkways available for pedestrians. The patio seating area shall be permitted in the parallel parking stall portions of the roadway.
Expanded service may not be allowed if there are no on-street parking stalls in front of the business.
There will be no fees to go with the temporary expansion applications. Efforts will be made to process permits within one week of the application date.
Assuming this goes through, businesses would be able to run expanded patios until Oct. 31.
