Downtown Kamloops businesses hosting block party to support 3 local charities

Several downtown businesses are hosting a block party this weekend to support a handful of local charities.

On Dec. 6 and 7, the 200-block of Victoria Street will be turned into a festive gathering with live entertainment, exclusive sales at local businesses and holiday treats.

The event will raise funds for the Christmas Cheer fund, which will support the Y Women’s Emergency Shelter, Centre for Seniors Information's Secret Santa Program and BGC Kamloops’ Journey Program.

“In our opinion, this is the most giving block in Kamloops,” says Mario Pietramala of Fratelli Foods, who spearheaded the event.

“The camaraderie amongst the shopkeepers is second to none, and we do events like this two or three times a year!”

The block party will include a "Holiday Shop Hop,” which will encourage people to collect stamps for purchases at participating stores.

Once five stamps are collected, shoppers will be entered to win $500 in gift cards.

The BC Interior Community Foundation will be setting up its Christmas Cheer Donation Station at 250 Victoria Street.

The station will include a festive photo opportunity for those who donate.
