UPDATE: No sign of body allegedly spotted in Thompson River

(UPDATE: April 23 @ 1:30 p.m.) — Kamloops RCMP will resume their search this week for a body that was allegedly spotted floating in the Thompson River by canoeists on Saturday.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said the RCMP helicopter will be up in the air in the next few days and police are working with partner agencies to get a boat on the river to do patrols. No other sightings have been reported.

RCMP received the report on April 21 around 9:50 a.m. from canoeists who made the discovery near the north end of Rabbit Island. In a media release, Staff Sgt. Michel Grondin said the canoeists had to paddle to shore to call police and ended up losing sight of the body.

Police searched the river by boat and plane but a body was not located. RCMP suspended the search on Saturday afternoon with plans to re-initiate an air search once the river conditions improved.
